Day Seven: Nasbinals - Saint-Chély-d'Aubrac

I woke up to rain that gently hit the window. Yesterday already the air had been a bit icy and now the rain was mixed with snow. The temperature was at about 2°C when we left the pony club. We needed to get some cash and groceries before leaving the town. So we stopped at the bank first and I got some money. When it was C's turn the machine took her visa and said a short and polite Au revoir without asking for the prefered language nor without giving her back the card. Since it is Sunday, the bank itself wasn't open and we had to call the hotline to explain what had happened. Luckily there was a lady waiting in line to get some cash who understood our problem and took over - she talked to the operator on the phone and simultaneously translated into wonderful German what was being said and what we had to do. We were so grateful for that lady!

In our guide book it had said that from now on most of the path would go down. I felt misled because we still had to go a lot uphill today and as you can see in the picture above we reached quite the altitude!

We've also seen snow almost every day so far.

In general the day has been quite gray even after it stopped raining. But on the horizon we could see bright blue sky which gave us hope.

Today we are at a gîte (French word for hostel) that opened especially for us! Like I said in an earlier post, there are not a lot of pilgrims on the road at the moment. The season doesn't usually really start on this camino until April and corona makes it more difficult for a gîte to stay open with so few people coming through and keeping up with the health and hygiene regulations. We are grateful that so far we've always found a place to sleep (which often enough we completely had to ourselves) and that the hosts make us feel so very welcome!
