Day Twelve: Conques - Livinhac-le-Haut

Another wonderful day in France has passed and we made it to our next hostel. But let me back up first.

Like I wrote last night we were staying at a monastery. Because of corona, we had to pick up our food that was prepared for us on trays. We all stood in line and when the lady recognized me she said: "You were the one who ordered vegetarian, is that right?" I said: "Yes ma'am." She replied: "Very good! Here's your fish." Thanks to my mask she didn't see my big grin. So a vegetarian meal in France apparently comes with fish! Good to know.

This place has quite a few monks living here. I'm not sure how many monks usually live at a monastery but we saw about 7 yesterday during the benediction of the pilgrims. One of them accompanied the songs last night on an electrical organ in the chapel before going to the big church and giving a small (real) organ concert. This morning he must have heard us leaving because he came up to us and offered C to sing something in the church. We ended up singing together, first a German song then a little canon that the same priest as on the picture below had written. He gave it to us as a parting gift. His name is Jéan-Daniel.

We had to put a lot of effort in today again just to leave that little town of Conques but we were rewarded with a wonderful view on that town. It was rainy but you can still imagine how picturesque that place really is.

And look where the walk took us today:
That's right. We saw a man walk past us that could have been the prince, too.

And then the usual view: cows, cows, cows. I don't get tired of it. I just don't enjoy the smell too much.

This river called Lot has been close to us for the past two or three days.
